The following members who have served the organisation, for a long time, with diligence and made a significant improved to the organisation have been awarded Honorary Membership.
2022
Chester Chandler
Chester was called to service to the President’s Trophy air race in 1984. He was required to sort out the handicaps of the President’s Trophy Air Race with fairness and impartiality. He has attended every race as handicapper since then till 2021 and brought his skill to the handicapping.
He has suffered abuse from the competitors, however with unbending fairness ensured a fair race.
For these years of commitment, we award him Honorary Membership of SAPFA.
Chris Booysen
Chris Booysen joined the SAPFA committee in 1996 and served first as Treasurer for eight years and then as Chairman for six year and once again treasurer for four years. He started compiling our website and its history in 2000 and his efforts are to thank for the rich record of SAPFA’s history that has been compiled.
He has stood down from the committee at the end of 2013 and tragically passed away in 2021.
For these years of commitment, we posthumously award him Honorary Membership of SAPFA.
Dirk de Vos
Dirk de Vos joined the scoring committee of the President’s Trophy Air Race in 1990. He assisted Chester Chandler with the handicapping and added value with his meticulous records of past performance.
With his dedication to accurate results, we thank him for many years of reliable results of the PTAR.
For these years of commitment, we award him Honorary Membership of SAPFA.
Walter Walle
Walter Walle has served on the SAPFA committee since 1999. He has represented the Free State and been the coordinator between SAPFA and the Bloemfontein Flying Club for eight President’s Trophy Air Races. Lately he has served on the Protea Selection Committee and eventually as chairman.
He has stood down from the committee at the end of 2021.
For these years of commitment, we award him Honorary Membership of SAPFA.
